Cougars Leave it Late

QO wins second straight match with 2-1 overtime win over visiting Clarksburg

After controlling the ball much of the first half but struggling to score in their first match without senior captain Shannon Dwyer, QO conceded an early second half goal on a well-placed shot beyond the reach of diving GK Gabby Paolini. The Cougars battled to get the equalizer for the remainder of the half, with great chances by forward Jessica Konecke and midfielder Isabelle Latour banging off posts.

They finally broke threw with 1:53 remaining in regulation, as forward Allie Solomon slid yet another ball through to the left that Konecke made no mistake in finishing. The Cougars continued to press in the first overtime session, with center back turned forward Kelly Whiteis causing difficulty for the Clarksburg back line. Whiteis broke through with less than 3 minutes left in the first overtime session, outpacing the Clarksburg defense to the ball, sealing off the pressure, and calmly slotting the ball past the advancing GK into the right corner of the net for the gamewinner and her first goal of the season.
